Fitting a night at Infinity into your Gran Canaria holiday

When to come, and why the days of the week matter more than the weather

Gran Canaria's high season is the European winter. From November to March the resort fills up with people escaping the cold, while the weather barely notices the calendar at all. So there is no wrong month to book — what changes is how many people are around you, not what you'll wear.

The bit almost everyone misses is different. Infinity opens every day except Tuesday. A short Sunday-to-Wednesday break gives you one realistic shot at it; a full week puts all six nights on the table and lets you choose without rushing. Check the club's week while you're comparing fares, not after you've paid for them.

Not your first night, and definitely not your last

The arrival night is tempting and it rarely works. You've come off a plane, the case is still shut and your body is on another clock. That kind of tired shows.

The final night is worse. We close at 3am on Wednesday and Thursday, and at 4am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Leaving at midnight because there's a check-in desk waiting at seven is a miserable way to end an evening. Put it mid-trip, with one day of holiday behind you and another one to recover.

Write off the following morning while you're at it — book nothing before noon. And agree how you're getting back before you leave the hotel. Four in the morning is not the moment to start working it out.

Which of the six nights suits you

The six nights at Infinity aren't one party with five posters. The crowd, the mood and how much skin is on show all move.

• Monday, Dessous Night: lingerie only, no exceptions.
• Wednesday, Couples Night (Date Night): couples, elegant tone. The gentlest way into the week.
• Thursday, FKK Night Party: naturist night, open to couples and to single men and women. If undressing early sounds like a lot, don't start here.
• Friday, Hot & Thirsty Friday: disco night with a DJ. More music, more movement — closer to a proper night out.
• Saturday, Indulge in the Night: the big one. DJ, and people make an effort with what they wear.
• Sunday, All For One Night: the most explicit evening on the calendar, limited capacity, booking recommended. Not a night for having a look around.

The conversation to have before you leave the hotel

This is the most useful thing on the page. Have it the day before — sober, no music, none of the adrenaline of already being there. Nobody makes good decisions in a queue.

Cover three things. What each of you fancies and what you don't. Where each of your limits sit tonight, which isn't necessarily where they sat last year. And a word or a gesture that means we're leaving — one that works with no explanation, no negotiation and no post-mortem the next morning.

Agree on one more thing, because it takes the pressure off: having a drink, watching the room and going back to the hotel is a perfectly good outcome. The club is clear that consent is the condition and a no is respected first time, but the rule that actually protects you is the one you set between yourselves.

What we haven't put in writing here — prices, what entry covers, how the door works on any given night — is worth asking directly. A WhatsApp before you fly gets you a straight answer instead of a guess off a forum.

Packing for it

A beach case and a night at the club overlap less than you'd think. Saturday is the dressed-up one, so leave room for something that isn't shorts and a t-shirt, plus shoes you can still stand up in at closing time.

Keep a small bag for the night — a beach tote looks exactly like a beach tote. And if Thursday's FKK night is the one you fancy, ask beforehand what's worth bringing for it rather than finding out at the door. The rule of thumb is simple: wear something you feel good in, not a costume. It's obvious from across the room who's comfortable and who isn't.

A first time, a long way from home

Plenty of people find that door easier to walk through when it's several thousand kilometres from their own town. Nobody knows you, nobody is going to say your name, and in Playa del Inglés a room full of different accents is simply how it is.

The catch is that a holiday comes with a deadline, and it's now or never is the worst reason to walk into anywhere. If you arrive and don't feel like it, have a drink and go. The door works both ways, and the club opens again tomorrow.
