Six nights, six different codes

Infinity opens every day except Tuesday and no two of those nights dress the same. The code isn't there to make life difficult — it's the fastest way of telling you what kind of evening you're walking into when you find unit 27 at C.C. La Sandía.

The short version: make an effort. Nobody at the door is reading labels and expensive clothes buy you nothing here. What people notice is whether you got ready, or whether you simply turned up.

Wednesday · Couples Night: smart, and that's all

This is the couples' evening and the calmest of the week: doors at 9pm, closing at three. Smart here means what you'd wear to a good dinner out — a dress, or tailored trousers with a proper shirt. A jacket works well and nobody misses it if you left it at the hotel. Wednesday is a night for talking, so dress for a long conversation rather than five hours on a dance floor.

Friday · Hot & Thirsty: smart with something extra

Friday is a disco night with a DJ and the room runs until four in the morning, so the code adds sexy to smart. In practice that's one piece that shows a little — lace, a sheer panel, a low back, a shorter hem — rather than an outfit shouting all at once. Give the shoes as much thought as the rest: heels that feel fine for two hours are a poor decision at half past two.

Saturday · Indulge in the Night: dark and properly dressed

Saturday is the big one and the only night with a code of its own: dark elegance. Black leads, though deep red, bottle green and midnight blue all belong. Satin, lace, leather, a suit without a tie, a black shirt that has actually seen an iron. It isn't black tie and nobody inspects you on the way in — it's simply that on Saturday the whole room has made an effort, and underdressing shows more than it would on any other night.

Thursday · FKK: what a nudist night actually involves

FKK stands for Freikörperkultur, the German word for naturism, and it's used right across Europe. Thursday's FKK Night Party is exactly that: an evening spent without clothes, open to couples and to single women and men.

It's the night that stops most first-timers, and nearly always for the same reason — the fear of being the only undressed person in a room full of dressed ones. That doesn't happen, because the code applies to everyone equally. Ten minutes in it stops feeling strange, and it often turns out to be the easiest night of the week to relax into. Wear something simple to take off and put back on, and if you'd like to know how arrivals work that night, ask on WhatsApp before you come.

Sunday · All For One Night: free choice, not no choice

Sunday is the most explicit evening on the calendar and the one with limited numbers, so booking ahead is the sensible move. The code is free or elegant, which means you can arrive dressed as you would on Saturday or in something more direct, and both suit the room. Free means it's your call — it doesn't mean whatever you happened to have on at the beach.

What doesn't work, any night of the week

Three things look wrong every time, and none of them is about money.

None of this is snobbery. In a room where people come over to talk to you, being clean and smelling good counts for far more than what the shirt cost. A shower, fresh clothes and a light hand with the fragrance covers most of the code on any night.

• Beachwear: swim shorts, flip-flops, the T-shirt you wore by the pool.
• Tracksuits, sportswear and trainers.
• Coming straight off the promenade without a shower.

You're on holiday and your suitcase is all swimwear

It happens every week. You pack for the beach at Maspalomas and then a plan turns up that asks for something else. It takes very little to fix: a plain shirt, dark trousers and closed shoes will carry you through all six nights, and so will one simple black dress. Playa del Inglés is full of shops, and staying inside the code is not an expensive business.
